Today I spent alot of time with my parents. I really enjoyed being driven around, especially my dad driving. You know for 50 years, dad never had a car, never had a driver's license, never talk about driving. He was nagged (by my mother of cos) for not having one. My mother loves to nag about waiting times for taxi. Anyway, it seemed like a good timing of where they both are at now. What I mean is, my dad is semi retired (I refused to say he is retired, cos he is way too young), and my mum enjoying my dad's company (I supposed, they argue damn alot in public, so embarrassing, but it's just the way they communicate). Anyway I love the fact that dad is driving.
Ok back to what we did today. I managed to visit my 2nd uncle at simlim. Also bought my 1GB card at a bargain SGD$37! It was like $70+ 5 months ago?
Afterwhich we had our lunch at the food court. Noodles with alot alot of pork lard!
Later, we went to Choa Chu Kang (I think) where my grandparents are buried. This is my dad's parents. We haven't been there for years, or rather I haven't been there for years. My sister told me that this was one of the first place they went after they gotten the car. My dad really misses his parents or rather he really wanted so much to visit them. But the place where they are buried was simply too far. Also we used to go with our uncles because one of them has a car. But due to work and the kids were growing up, we just finding excuses to visit the graveyard. My dad even bought oranges one time. You know, in time to come, we cannot visit them like that anymore. The govt now only allows a certain period of time for buried bodies. They will later dig it all out and put it all in urns.In the evening, we went to Toa Payoh. After dinner I requested to visit my Grandparents old place. It was this flat where they rented from Government. It was one bedroom flat.
The place has changed so much. In fact, it was the surroundings. This was one of the first few places my family visited once they had to car. I remembered when I was young, we used to come over often. The flat was very small. But I believed we enjoyed the cosyness and the times where our parents played mahjong till late. We kids just played outside the corridor and in the small lounge area. My grandma would cook the yummiest Pork Belly and of cos with other dishes.
My mum and I went to the floor where they used to live. The flat is now tiled and an elderly couple lived there. The flat seemed cleaner but I tell you, the elevator is just terrible. It just smells like urine. Ok I shan't go there.
Today is such a fruitful day. I managed to visit these places and really made me think alot. Seriously, treasure what you have and enjoy every moment. When you recall them, you can still smile about it.
